Promise of the Day: In His Shadow

Swallowed Up

Blessings!

Today’s promise is Psalm 91:1-3 CJB:

You who live in the shelter of ‘Elyon,
who spend your nights in the shadow of Shaddai,
who say to Adonai, ‘My refuge! My fortress!
My God, in whom I trust!’ —
he will rescue you from the trap of the hunter
and from the plague of calamities;

Devotion:

Psalm 91 is an excellent promise to pray over yourself and your family every day. But what does it mean to live in the shelter of God? It is the desire of my heart that you learn and practice this. Some people put on Jesus once or twice a week, when they attend church and Bible study, but they slip Him off as soon as they get in their cars and drive away. This isn’t what Jesus died and rose again for. Our enemy doesn’t take a day or two off each week, let alone five. He is working in the world, our world, 24/7, and that is exactly what Kingdom warriors do.

We memorize and meditate on God’s Word as we wake and as we go to sleep and every hour in between. We spend time alone with God each day and then we pray without ceasing throughout the day, giving thanks to God in all things and seeking His direction. We include Him in the most mundane tasks of the day, and when we sleep, He fills our dreams with visions, imparting His gifts. A good physical representation of God’s Spiritual shelter would be a tallit, like the one pictured above, but we never want to remove the Spiritual covering of the Lord.

This is what it means to abide in God and He in us. It is a relationship. And, when the world around us is frantic and chaotic, those who cultivate this relationship can rest beneath the shelter of God’s wing. We can declare with confidence, “My God is bigger than all of this.”

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I thank You and praise You for Your sovereignty. Fill me to overflowing with Your Spirit, Lord, that I may truly know Your Peace. And help that Peace flow to those around me, dispelling fear and leading others to enjoy Your Shelter. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Have a victorious day in the Lord!
