I had a couple dreams last Sunday that kind of discouraged me. But, when I went before The Lord that morning and asked Him to reveal the meaning of the dreams, I learned they were anything but discouraging. They were actually very exciting.
In the first dream, a man was proudly showing me his house, which he had made a fortress to protect him and his family against an enemy. The impression I got was a governmental power. He was proud that the exterior of the house looked just like any other house on the block, because it wouldn’t draw attention or single him out to the enemy (or anyone else). Just inside the outer walls, however, he had erected new walls that looked solid and very colorful, very pleasing to the eye.
He invited me in for a tour, and I found myself in the upper room. In dreams, the upper most floor of a house represents a person’s spirituality. The room was old and unfinished, like an old attic, with low ceilings. A great contrast to the outside. Along one wall were crates filled with old record albums, and I wondered why anyone would bring those into a sanctuary. I didn’t see a record player anywhere. Aside from the albums, the room was empty.
I looked out a small window onto the roof which was old, gray, cedar shakes covered with thick moss. I wondered why anyone would build a fortress and not update the roof. Then I thought, if this was a sanctuary, why would you cover it at all? Why put something between you and God? Why not live under an open Heaven?
I hesitated to question the owner because he was so proud of his accomplishment. As I crossed back to the entryway, which was nothing more than a hole in the wall, the floor began to give way, and I looked down to see that the floorboards were resting on some type of PVC pipe that was not secured to anything. The floor sagged more with each step. My only thought at that point was to get out alive, but I was terrified to take another step! I knew the floor would collapse any moment, taking me down with it.
This dream disturbed me greatly. I thought I was doing something wrong. But The Lord showed me this message is for believers who want to be a part of what He is doing now, but try to achieve it on their own terms and by their own strength and works, using on old methods, and an antiquated way of listening to Him. He showed me that this is not only futile, but deadly.
“You cannot do what I AM doing.” He told me, “And you cannot bring the old into the New. Don’t try to hear from Me as you have in the past. I AM speaking in a new way, in a new language. Don’t try to blend in with your neighbors. You cannot be a part of what I AM doing and look like the world. I AM setting you apart to be a brazen signpost to a lost world—enemy or no.”
Then He brought to my mind Isaiah 48:6-7:
“You have heard;
See all this.
And will you not declare it?
I have made you hear new things from this time,
Even hidden things, and you did not know them.
“They are created now and not from the beginning;
And before this day you have not heard them,
Lest you should say, ‘Of course I knew them.'”
Now, when I heard “brazen signpost” I immediately saw a bulls eye. But of a truth I tell you that if we only stand, God will do all the rest. Including protecting us from the enemy.
“Then I said to you, ‘Do not be terrified, or afraid of them. The Lord your God, who goes before you, He will fight for you, according to all He did for you in Egypt before your eyes,and in the wilderness where you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.'” Deuteronomy 1:29-31
“Lord, You will establish peace for us, for You have also done all our works in us.” Isaiah 26:12
“For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy.” Psalm 61:3
What an exciting time we live in! God is calling His warriors out of the world! His brazen signposts, shining in His glory, who will stand for Him unapologetically, declaring His Word and righteousness, and drawing the lost back to Him!
“Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word,by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.” Acts 4:29, 30
Will you take up His standard and answer His call?
