Today’s Promise is 1 John 4:2, 3 NKJV:
“By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.”
Devotion:
This is one promise every believer should know by heart. the Holy Spirit is very good about sending up read flags when what we are hearing is not from the Father–if we pay attention. But asking this simple question of the speaker will reveal the heart. This is also an accurate gauge for knowing if someone is under the influence of unclean spirits. We are not meant to walk in darkness but in light, and Jesus has given us all the light we need. This is no substitute, however, for knowing and rightly dividing God’s Word. Even believers can be misguided, but the Holy Spirit is faithful to lead us into all truth.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, teach me to be sensitive to Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name, and to knowledgeably and aptly wield the Sword of Truth. Help me to walk in Your power on earth, that others may trust in You. Amen.
