Promise of the Day: Speak Life

Blessings!

Today’s promise is Proverbs 18:21 NKJV:

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”

Devotion:

The church as a whole seems to have forgotten that we are commanded to love one another. This command carries no ifs, ands, or buts. In fact even our enemies are not to be excluded. Do not be deceived. If the words we speak to and about one another do not exhort, edify, comfort, or bless, we have chosen to serve Satan, and are speaking words of death. Curses. The spoken word is powerful. Blessings released return to the speaker, but so do curses. The Hebrew term for gossip is lashon hara, poison tongue, and in times past, God punished those who practiced it with a flesh-eating disease much like leprosy. Now, it carries its own punishment in the form of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and other illness, as it allows demons free reign to our flesh. But don’t think you are safe if you merely listen to idle gossip and slander. The thing about mudslinging is, it defiles not only the slinger, but everyone in range of the slinging.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, help me to be the foot that stomps out the ember of gossip and slander before it has a chance to infect others. Let me only speak life into the lives of all those whom You have created in Your own image, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Have a victorious day in the Lord!
