Promise of the Day: What Really Matters

Power to Live

Blessings!

Today’s Promise is Proverbs 12:21 CJB:

No harm can come to the righteous,
but the wicked are overwhelmed with disaster.

Power to Live

Devotion:

According to Roman historians such as Tertullian and Josephus, the Apostle John was boiled in oil before his imprisonment on Patmos. I can’t help but wonder if he was thinking about this promise as he was lowered into the cauldron. To the ordinary man, being boiled in oil might have the appearance of “grave trouble.” But John was no ordinary man. He was passionate in his love for Jesus and he was filled with the Holy Spirit. His passion enabled him to see that it wasn’t his flesh that mattered, but his eternal soul. This shift in perspective is vital if we are to serve the Lord with abandon, trusting our physical well-being to Him. As for John, this ordeal resulted in nothing more than a spa treatment, leading most of his spectators to faith in Jesus Christ, which is what led to his exile. But, even in exile, John wrote letters that are still changing lives, today. Now, that’s faith in action.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for covering me with the righteousness of Christ. Please fill me with Your Spirit, and lead me into all truth according to the promise of Your Son. Help me keep my eyes fixed on You, in Jesus’ name, that I may serve You with abandon. Amen.

Have a victorious day in the Lord!
