Blessings!
Today’s Promise is Isaiah 40:31 NKJV:
“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
Devotion:
Waiting is not one of my favorite activities. But what does it mean to “mount up with wings like eagles?” I mean, it’s a nice image, but why eagles? Well, did you know that some eagles have a wingspan of 8.2 feet? Not only are those wings backed with tremendous power to reach heights of almost three miles, but they also have the area to glide effortlessly on the air currents once they get up there. These eagles dive on their targets with pin-point accuracy without crashing, and then lift off again carrying prey as large as a deer! Also, while people are capable of seeing three basic colors: red, blue, and yellow, eagles see five! Their retinas contain a million light sensitive cells per square mm–five times more than humans. Both of these things enable them to see small game from as far up as two miles!
Hmm. Power to reach great heights. Effortless soaring. Acute vision. The power to overtake things much larger than myself…
Suddenly, waiting doesn’t sound so bad.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I want to mount up with wings like an eagle! I want to feel Your power and soar on Your Spirit. I want to conquer great foes in Your name. And I’m willing to wait on You to get me there. Lord, please teach me how to wait on You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Have a victorious day in the Lord!
