Promise of the Day: Old School

Blessings!

Today’s Promise is Jeremiah 6:16 NKJV:

Thus says the Lord:

‘Stand in the ways and see,
And ask for the old paths, where the good way is,
And walk in it;
Then you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.'”

Devotion:

The world, even the Church, has become so entrenched in the lusts of the flesh that they have deemed the ancient ways superfluous in the name of grace. Some have even made a joke of them, trading holiness for social correctness. Some church leaders teach the way to get the “unchurched” into church is to behave more like them. No one who knows God would dream of entertaining such thoughts. God is still righteous, and unrighteousness cannot stand in His presence. We still can do nothing to make ourselves clean enough to be received by Him–except put on, and keep on, the robe of righteousness procured for us by His Son. The covering of Christ allows us to remain in His presence, where we are gradually transformed, from glory to glory. Not into the image of the world, but into the image of God. Not to disregard the old paths, but to walk with confidence and faith, the narrow road before us. Now we can ask for the old paths and walk in them–and glorify God for giving us a guide and helper along the way.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You so much for loving me enough to send Your Son to die for me, that I might be covered by His righteousness. And thank You, Jesus, for giving me the Holy Spirit to help me walk in a way that is pleasing to You. You do not set Your children up for failure, Lord, but for victory. And for that I will praise You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Have a victorious day in the Lord!
