Promise of the Day: United with the Lord

True Peace

Blessings!

Today’s Promise is 1 Corinthians 15:58 CJB:

“So, my dear brothers, stand firm and immovable, always doing the Lord’s work as vigorously as you can, knowing that united with the Lord your efforts are not in vain.”

Devotion:

I’m a very impatient person, though God is working on that little problem. When something needs to be done, I don’t want to have to read the directions, or learn a new process, I just want to get it done. I’ll figure it out along the way. Unfortunately, what usually happens is that I waste a lot of time, get very frustrated and berate myself–and then I read the directions anyway.

Too often believers plunge into God’s work based on their own understanding, or what other believers have told them. Then they get frustrated and burned out and actually do more harm than good. What we need to understand is that in order to know what “God’s work” for us is, we must first know God. Only He knows what He created us for, and it is unique to every believer. When we take the time to develop a relationship with the Father, we learn to discern His voice from any other. We learn exactly what work He created us to do, and He gives us all we need to accomplish it. Not even Jesus did His own will on earth, but the will of His Father.

When every believer is “united with the Lord” and doing the work He has given each one of us to do, instead of just trying to get things done, we will finally be united as the Body of Christ. And we will be unstoppable.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for having a plan for me. Please, help me make knowing You my top priority, in Jesus’ name. Help me to know Your voice and not get distracted. As I draw closer to You, show me how I can best serve You, that You might be glorified, and help me trust in You to do the work through me, that I might not waste anymore of the precious time You’ve given me on vain pursuits. Amen.

Have a victorious day in the Lord!
