Today’s Promise is Matthew 10:38, 39 NKJV:
“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”
Devotion:
This is the Prince of Peace laying down, in no uncertain terms, the cost of Salvation. Many believe–and teach–that reciting the “sinners prayer” is your get-out-of-hell-free card. But the blood of Jesus is a covenant, a legally binding contract we enter into with God. Jesus gave His life in exchange for ours. That was the price He paid to fulfill His end of the contract. This leaves our end of the contract to be fulfilled–with our lives. Living sacrifices to God, spirit, soul, and body. Surrendering our wants, desires, and wills to Him completely, that He might recreate us in His likeness. This is what it means to find your life. Because only God knows what He created us to be, and only He is capable of finishing the work He began in us. This knowledge makes it sheer joy to pick up our crosses and follow after Him.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, take my life, a living sacrifice, and fill me with Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name. Soften my heart, that I may be sensitive to Your leading and surrender readily to You. Help me to find my life in You. Amen.
