Blessings!
Today’s Promise is Matthew 5:7 KJV:
“Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.”
Devotion:
Although salvation hinges on receiving mercy from God, showing mercy to others in order to obtain it from God is nothing more than works. As Jesus demonstrated on the Cross, true mercy flows straight from the heart of God. It is an act of surrender to the Holy Spirit, the fruit of a heart that is grateful and humbled by the mercy it was shown on that cross. It’s not a question of whether someone who has hurt us deserves our mercy, but whether we deserve God’s mercy. The answer to that question levels the playing field and keeps us humble. God can do wonders with a humble heart.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the undeserved mercy You have shown me through Your Son’s work on the cross. Help me remember that each time someone asks for my forgiveness, in Jesus’ name. Help me surrender to Your Spirit as Jesus did, and extend the same mercy to others that You have extended to me. Amen.
Have a victorious day in the Lord!
