The Bread of Life: Are You on a Spritual Diet?

Blessings Friends,

When you are hungry, do you have someone eat your food and then regurgitate it into your mouth?

Just reading those words is enough to make most people sick. Yet, that is exactly how many take in spiritual nourishment.

Jesus said,

“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”—Matthew 4:4

And, could you live on one meal a week? One meal that has been processed and reconstituted? Maybe, but what would your quality of life be?

It’s amazing how many people rely on other people for their spiritual sustenance, sitting in church once a week and being told who God is by someone every bit as fallible as they are.

In His forty-day fast in the wilderness, when Jesus quoted that scripture to Satan, He was demonstrating that The Word of God is not AS important as food for life, but MORE important. Why? Because the state of our eternal soul is vastly more important than that of our temporary flesh.

With eternity at stake, we must take full responsibility for our own spiritual health. It cannot be left in the hands of any other.

The power in The Word as sustenance lies not in WHAT is, but in WHOM it is. It is not an inanimate object filled with the wisdom of the ages.

John 1:14:

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”

John 6:35:

“And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”

John 6:51:

“I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.”

The Word is alive, and being alive, it imparts life to those who believe and partake of it.

The daily consumption of The Bread of Life is essential to our spiritual health and growth. Have you ever heard the phrase, “You are what you eat?” As you take in The Bread of Life, it becomes a part of you, transforming you. It nourishes your spirit, strengthens you, causes you to grow and produce much good fruit.

Romans 12:2:

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

Jesus referred to Himself as our Bridegroom. I don’t know many successful marriages that are conducted via third party—but I know plenty of divorces that are. When we get into The Word with prayer each day, we are building intimacy with Christ. Becoming one with Him.

That should be our priority. Not because of what He can do for us, but because of who He is.

The Word of God, along with The Holy Spirit, is the source of everything we need. Not only to live eternally with Him in Heaven, but to live life to the fullest here on Earth.

Heavenly Father,

Make me ravenous for Your Bread of Life. Let it strengthen my muscle, fill my mind, and course through my veins. Let Your Word be first on my mind and tongue when I rise, and last when I lie down. Make me to know You personally, intimately, that I would not be misled or dissuaded of Your truth and robbed of my inheritance in You. Amen.

God’s grace and peace be yours,

Rebecca
