I’ve been praying for a special word for you for Christmas. I’ve been seeing prophecies of acceleration, Heavenly alignment, and breakthrough. But what the Lord has released to me has been so much deeper than anything I have experienced. I only hope I can do it justice in print because I know this is a word for the true called-out ones.
One morning last week, I sat in deep contemplation, wrestling with the complacency of the church. Why, Lord, I asked, are Your people content knowing about You, when You have made it possible to know You, personally, face-to-face, through the work of Your Son? Why are they so afraid that they may learn something about You that doesn’t agree with their preconceived ideas of who You are?
My Father’s response astonished me. Not because I hadn’t known it before, but because this knowledge had now become more than head knowledge. It was as if a door in my mind was opened, and this truth suddenly filled every atom of my being.
This is what He told me:
“How can the finite even begin to grasp the infinite? How can that which is dead comprehend life? It is impossible. Only that which is spirit can receive that which is spirit. This is why I have said, through My faithful servant, mortify your flesh. This is why I have said, set your mind on things above. This is why I have said, I AM a spirit, and whoever worships ME must worship ME in spirit and in truth. Let the dead bury the dead. Take up your cross and follow ME!”
All of those scriptures and more suddenly came alive in me. I was dumbfounded. It was so simple. Not at all figurative or symbolic, but real. Truth. It wasn’t about denying my flesh, but in living wholly in the spirit. For we are spirit beings, temporarily housed in flesh in order to engage in the world God created for us. But, because of the fall, this flesh is dead. This is the penalty for sin.
With the exception of Enoch and Elijah, we begin to die the day we are conceived, and there is no escaping this. Even if we survive until Jesus returns, our flesh will die and be replaced with the incorruptible.
We cannot possibly make sense of the sovereignty of El Shaddai if we insist on looking at Him through the filter of the flesh. Though the filter of death. For He is Life. The veil has been torn, but only by stepping into the Holy of Holies can we hope to know God as He is, and we must all make that choice for ourselves.
Jesus is the door to The Infinite, and the Holy Spirit is the key. We have received Christ’s robe of righteousness to cover us in the Father’s presence. Through Jesus, we have also received God’s Spirit to enter into His presence in faith. And Faith is the opposite knowledge. As long as we insist on judging the actions and motivations of the God of Creation based on what we determine is “good” or “bad,” we will never really know Him and appreciate the beauty of His sovereignty. We will, in fact, ourselves be judged as idolaters, for creating a god that appeals to our flesh.
When you really know God, you don’t need to understand His actions and motives in order to trust Him implicitly. Because there is not a doubt in your mind that you are loved more deeply than you could ever imagine, and that everything that happens in your life happens for your good. That is what God is. Good. Always. And that is what He sacrificed His only Son to give you. Not because you’ve earned it or deserve it. But because He loves you! When you can receive this truth in all peace, you will have begun to possess the Infinite.
My prayer for all of us in the coming year is that we may walk fully in the spirit, forsaking the flesh. Forsaking what we want to believe, and opening our hearts to receive our Heavenly Father in all His fullness. As it is written.
“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”—Ephesians 3:14-21
And Amen!
God’s grace and peace be yours, for Christmas and the coming New Year,
Rebecca
