Today’s Promise is John 8:47 CJB:
“Whoever belongs to God listens to what God says; the reason you don’t listen is that you don’t belong to God.”
Devotion:
Ouch! Jesus wasn’t addressing pagans, here. He was addressing Judeans! And, not just Judeans, but the Judeans who trusted Him. Yet, Jesus knew, this trust extended only as far and their own understanding. It was not the faith that God requires of us. Faith that puts aside our preconceived notions of who God is and accepts Him at His Word. The faith of a child. Had these “believers” had that kind of faith, they would have never conspired to kill Jesus as a threat to their own beliefs. They would have known Him. And Jesus would have never called them children of Satan. Are you listening to and receiving God’s Truth with the faith of a child? Do you belong to God?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for laying out in Your Word and showing me through Your Son, exactly who You are. When questions arise in my mind about who You are, strengthen my faith through Your Truth and Holy Spirit, in Jesus’ name. Help me remember that I don’t have to understand why You do what You do, I just have to trust in You. You will never fail me. Amen.
