Today’s Promise is Luke 1:79 CJB:
You, child, will be called a prophet of Ha‘Elyon;
you will go before the Lord to prepare his way
by spreading the knowledge among his people
that deliverance comes by having sins forgiven
through our God’s most tender mercy,
which causes the Sunrise to visit us from Heaven,
to shine on those in darkness, living in the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the paths of peace.”
Devotion:
This prophecy was spoken over John the Baptist by the Holy Spirit through his father. The Holy Spirit had not yet been poured out on believers, and John was very much alone in his commission to prepare the way for our Savior. But have you ever noticed how closely this prophecy resembles the Great Commission Jesus gave before He ascended into Heaven? Jesus is coming back again. And we, as His disciples have been tasked with preparing the way for His return. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are to be spreading the knowledge that deliverance comes by repentance and forgiveness. We are to shine with His glory in this dark world, dispelling the shadow of death and guiding feet into the paths of peace. And, praise God, we don’t have to go it alone. Together, our light can fill the earth.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your prophet to prepare the way for my Salvation. Fill me with Your Spirit and Your Light, in Jesus’ name, Lord, and connect me with more of Your Light Bearers, that we may fill the earth with Your glory. Amen.
