Today’s Promise is John 17:16, 17 NKJV:
“They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”
Devotion:
Have you ever felt like an alien on earth? Well, praise the Lord! You may not think it, but you are right where you need to be. I know it’s human nature to want to belong. Trust me. I’ve spent a lot of years trying to fit in. But I’ve got wonderful news for you! It’s not us. It’s what we’ve been trying to fit into! We do belong–just not to this world. We belong to the Kingdom of God! Not only do we belong, but we are vital parts of God’s Kingdom! Loved and cherished!
That’s why Jesus prayed for the Father to “sanctify” us by His Truth. To sanctify means to set apart from the whole for a special purpose. When we want to buy ourselves something special, we “set apart” some of our earnings so we can redeem it for something of greater value. In our case, God wants to redeem our old nature for a nature of holiness.
Once I realized where I belong, my focus went from “What can I do to please people?” to “What can I do to please my Father?” That choice brought a peace the world could never deliver, because God doesn’t play games like people do. He is faithful to show me who He is and how I can please Him. He wants me to know Him. And He wants you to know Him, too!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for setting me apart to give me a home in Your Kingdom. I choose and purpose of my own freewill to tune out this world and tune into You. Please show me who You are, in Jesus’ name, and what You created me to be in You. Amen!
