Today’s Promise is James 1:12 NIV:
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
Devotion:
We are told time and time again in the Word, that the proving of our faith results in spiritual maturity. This is accomplished through testing. Just as precious metals are smelted to refine them, and gemstones are cut to reveal their clarity and fire. Even muscle has to first be broken down in order to grow in size and strength, and our immune systems must endure sickness to develop antibodies. Although it may not be pleasant at the time, it is the work of a kind and loving Father. He knows exactly what we need to become the people He created us to be. He also knows that we cannot overcome trials on our own, so He sent His Son, who overcame all these trials before us. We need only to stand fast in the victory of Jesus Christ, to come through any trial victoriously. It is not our strength that earns us the crown of life, but our faith in His.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, You are good, and Your Mercy endures forever! Thank You for loving me enough to test and try me, giving me the opportunity to experience the greatness of Your Salvation in every trial. Thank You for helping me know You and trust You more, for transforming me from glory to glory. I surrender to You completely, Lord. Make me all You created me to be, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
