Today’s Promise is 1 John 2:16, 17 NKJV:
“For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”
Devotion:
So many people resist the Lord because they think following Him means giving up all the pleasures of life. What they don’t understand is that, apart from God, our vision is limited to our physical sight. When we give our lives to Jesus, stepping out in faith and receiving the Holy Spirit, we begin to see the true reality. Our spiritual eyes are opened and we can see that the physical world in which we live is a mere shadow of the glory that awaits us. We see that living to please the flesh and fit in with the world is a fool’s errand, because all that is truly fulfilling and eternal as well is in our Lord, Jesus Christ, and the home He has made for us in Heaven.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for opening my spiritual eyes and showing me Your glory! Help me, in Jesus’ name, not to be distracted by the trappings of this world and to always keep Your Kingdom before me. Amen!
