Today’s Promise is John 14:17 NKJV:
“The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
Devotion:
Jesus sent us the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth, but He doesn’t just take over our minds when He enters. We don’t know all there is to know just because the Holy Spirit lives in us. He is merely the source of all truth. Many times we think we know the truth, when we haven’t even consulted the Spirit of Truth on a matter. We form opinions based on what we hear, see, and experience, but opinions aren’t truth. Yet, we often speak our opinions as if they were God’s truth. This is how the Church has become divided by so many doctrines.
The Holy Spirit is faithful to reveal God’s truth in any matter, but we must first remember to seek God’s truth, and then be willing to receive it. The more faithful we are in this, the more truth will be entrusted to us.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please help me to learn the practice of seeking Your Truth before I speak for You. Please don’t let the enemy use me as a tool of division or a stumbling block in Your Body, but let Your Truth bring healing and unity, between You and me, and in those around me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
