Promise of the Day: Vengeance

Blessings!

Today’s Promise is 2 Samuel 3:39 NKJV:

“The Lord shall repay the evildoer according to his wickedness.”

Devotion:

These words were spoken by King David over the murder of Abner. Abner, who had previously fought against David, God’s anointed, had come to him to make peace and pledge his allegiance to the rightful king, promising to bring the rest of Israel to pledge their loyalty to him also. Today, this would be like an enemy of Jesus repenting and giving his life to Christ. But there were men, already on David’s side, who were angered by this. Abner had killed their brother, and they weren’t about to let that go. They wanted revenge and they wanted it their way. So they took Abner’s life. But instead of gaining respect and approval from the king, they were cursed. Not only had David lost a new friend, he lost a valuable servant who could have helped him unite the kingdom.

Vengeance belongs to the Lord alone, yet the spirit of pride would have us believe it is our right. It is one of the most powerful weapons in Satan’s arsenal in keeping the Church divided and impotent. It is so important that we as members of God’s Kingdom` forgive ALL past wrongs of those who hurt us. Especially, those who come into to the Kingdom. For, if the King has forgiven them, who are we to do any less? Our status as children of the King does not entitle us to exact judgment on anyone, but rather empowers us to forgive and work together to unify the body of Christ in love. Let the sins of the past remain in the past, and let us move together into a more perfect tomorrow.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I choose this day to let go of the past and walk boldly into the future. Your future. Many have hurt me, Lord, but no more than I have hurt You. I choose as You chose to forgive, that I might not be a hindrance to the unification of the body of Christ. Pour out Your healing balm on my heart, Lord, in Jesus’ name, that I may never be tempted to look back and miss the great things that lie ahead. Amen.

Have a victorious day in the Lord!
