Promise of the Day: Hating Your Life

Blessings!

Today’s Promise is John 12:25 NKJV:

“He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.”

Devotion:

Undoubtedly, many people think this statement is crazy. But, when you love something, you’ll do anything to save it. You can see the danger of making this choice clearly by looking to those who have been martyred for their faith. Many of them could have easily saved their own lives by simply denying Jesus. In that moment, they had to decide what they loved more: their lives on earth, or eternal life in the presence of the Lord. Though it may not seem as dramatic, we make the same choice each day, when choose to obey God (love of God) or follow our own desires (love of self). Jesus tells us that if we love Him, we will obey His commands. We can know His commands by knowing His Word, but He also gives us His Spirit to guide us. And, the more we know Jesus, the more we will hear His voice and come to a place of loving Him so deeply, our own lives have no value at all. It is then that we will truly begin to live.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, to know You truly is to love You. Help me to know You more each day. More than my own life. Let Your Spirit live in and through me, that others may be drawn by Your love and seek to know You more, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Have a victorious day in the Lord!
