Promise of the Day: Honor in Death

The Guidebook

Blessings!

Today’s Promise is 1 John 5:14-15 CJB:

“If someone is serving me, let him follow me; wherever I am, my servant will be there too. My Father will honor anyone who serves me.”

Devotion:

It may appear as if Jesus is telling His disciples to follow Him around on earth, but in the verses that come before this, we see something entirely different. He is talking about going to the cross. He is saying that anyone who would serve Him must die to the flesh and be resurrected in the Spirit. It is only in the Spirit that we can walk in Jesus’ footprints of love and obedience. It is only in His Spirit that we can truly be where He is, experiencing Heaven, now. When we surrender our lives to Jesus, He will do in us and through us what we never could imagine, bringing glory to our Father. Our Father will honor us for our service, and unlike the honor the world bestows, His lasts for all eternity.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I choose this day to serve Your Son. I choose to lay down my life, my wants and desires, in order that I may live fully in Your Spirit. I know I could never earn Your honor on my own, but I believe the work of Messiah made it possible for me to please You. Help me, Lord, in Jesus’ name, to please You. Amen.

Have a victorious day in the Lord!
