Today’s Promise is Proverbs 12:20 NKJV:
“Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil,
But counselors of peace have joy.”
Devotion:
Sometimes people think they can control their lives and circumstances by keeping a tally of all the wrongs done to them and others, and taking it upon themselves to see that justice is done. This is a deception. In reality, they are the ones being controlled, enslaved by their own pride. And there is no joy in slavery. Only burden and grief. When we leave the tallying to God, we are free to pursue peace, knowing He will settle all debts in His time. There is freedom in forgiveness, and there is joy in freedom.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I want to walk in Your joy. I choose today to leave my tally sheet at the Cross, to forgive all past hurts, and pursue peace. I choose to reject all thoughts of self-pity, injury, revenge, or negativity toward anyone who has caused me pain, and I ask that You fill me instead with Your Spirit of Peace and Joy. You came to give me life to the fullest, Lord, and I receive that life, now, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
