Blessings!
Today’s Promise is John 6:58 NKJV:
“This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
Devotion:
Jesus lost a lot of followers the day He made that statement. They just couldn’t get past the physical. It is true, you are what you eat, but not just physically. We are not physical beings who happen to have spirits. We are spiritual beings inhabiting earthen vessels. This is why Jesus told Satan, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word which proceeds from the mouth of God.” (Matt. 4:4) Our spirits require nourishment, too.
No matter what care we take of our physical bodies, they will eventually die, but our spirits were created for eternity. Jesus is the Bread that gives our spirits life, growth, and strength. Just as we take in food, and it becomes the building blocks of our physical bodies, consuming Christ, by His Word and by communion with His Spirit, builds up our spirits, transforming us into His likeness, and preparing us for an eternity with Him.
Contrary to physical dietary guidelines, “moderation” is not something that should be applied to the Bread of Life. In fact, the more you eat, the better!
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the Bread of Life. Please help me to crave You more than any earthly food. Even chocolate! Don’t ever let my hunger for You be satisfied, in Jesus name. Amen!
Have a victorious day in the Lord!
