Blessings!
Today’s Promise is Romans 12:19 CJB:
“Never seek revenge, my friends; instead, leave that to God’s anger; for in the Tanakh (Scripture) it is written,
“Adonai says, ‘Vengeance is my responsibility; I will repay.’”
Devotion:
Most people love justice. That is why books and movies that depict the bad guy getting his just desserts are so popular. And it’s good to love justice. God loves justice. The problem arises when we take it upon ourselves to exact justice, whether it be repaying a betrayal or insult, or making up for the failings of a legal system. God’s Word makes it clear that there is only One Law Giver (James 4:12), and only the Giver of the Law has the authority to enforce the Law. When we take justice out of the hands of our courts, we’re called a vigilantes. When we take justice out of the hands of God, we’re called anti-Christ, usurping the authority of the living God and putting ourselves in His place. That’s what Satan did. As children of God, we should rejoice that He has freed us from the burden of revenge, which robs us of peace, joy, and health. It’s that freedom that enables us to walk in love and forgiveness, as Jesus did. We should also rejoice that our own sins are covered by the blood of Christ. For, unlike worldly justice, our God is not blind. No one will escape His justice. He will repay.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being a just and righteous judge. And thank You for defending me and giving me the grace to rest in You, knowing You will never fail me. Just as Your Son, who trusted in You to deal with those who persecuted and killed Him, fill me with Your grace, in Jesus’ name, and let me live a life of love and forgiveness, leaving You to judge. Amen.
Have a victorious day in the Lord!
